Sport Ireland Innovation Project

Sport Ireland Innovation Project

Bainisteoir Beag Playground Leaders Programme was established in 2018 by Kilkenny Recreation & Sports Partnership (KRSP) to encourage pupil-led breaktime activities during break times in school.  The aim is to train pupils in fifth and sixth class as playground leaders and increase the level of inclusive physical activity in schools.

As part of the Sport Ireland Innovation Initiative KRSP are conducting a review and redevelopment of the programme including exploring the potential use of app and wearable technology. Research is needed to explore the needs, requirements, preferences, and future direction for children in Ireland. The research survey sample will include children in senior cycle primary schools in Ireland (2nd-6th class), from a cross section of backgrounds; urban/rural, high deprivation/affluent, range of ethnic backgrounds, inclusion of children with a disability and those from the Traveller community etc.

Behaviour & Attitudes (B&A), the independent market research company, are conducting this research on our behalf. As part of the research B&A are currently conducting a quantitative online survey among children in 2nd – 6th class. The survey will be a short review of how children currently play sports/games in school, outside of school, their use of technology in sport and attitudes towards leadership. In conjunction with this B&A will also conduct focus groups with pairs of children in selected schools across Ireland.

KRSP looks forward to sharing the results with you and moving on to the next phase of the project. The Innovation project is funded thanks to Sport Ireland.  For further information on this project call Seamus on 087 3567884 or email seamus@krsp.ie
